Default OEM Navigation 98 LS400

is it possible to replace my stock navigation with an aftermarket DVD/navigation. I know with the stock navi, it has the controls for the a/c and sound system. is there a way i can swap with a non-navi so i can get the climate controls and be able to install aftermarket dvd/nav.

you will have to buy the a/c control plus double din kit for the DVD/Nav. A/c should run you $800 or money unless you get it from the junk yard. I am not 100% sure if the connector will just plug in.

a stock 98-00 climate control unit will bolt right in, but you need a dash kit+stereo harness.

best bet if you're keeping the OEM sub is the beatsonic harness + dash kit (best matching dash + plug/play harness)

I just looked and found four 98-00 HVAC control modules on ebay with "buy it now" prices ranging from $99 to $150.

lot more to swap if you're converting non-navi to navi. your car's goingto be missing a LOT of wiring as well as the GPS antenna and the controlling computer/hdd in the trunk.

PureDrifter, can you also swap the non-navi factory Pioneer system in? I was studying the factory wiring diagram last night to try to figure this out. It looks like the speaker connections go through the navi ECU, and I was wondering whether removing the navi head unit will cause the navi ECU not to pass the signal through.

Taking apart the dash to replace the system doesn't intimidate me, and tracking down the factory parts doesn't intimidate me, but attempting to find an entire non-navi wiring harness and taking the whole interior apart to swap it in is more work than I'd care to do. So if someone can confirm that the factory Pioneer non-navi system will work with a factory navi wiring harness, I'd be very appreciative! Thanks in advance.

I can't give you a definitive answer but a start would be to verify if your nav head unit has the exact same connectors shown in this photo of the back of a 98-00 LS400 standard Pioneer head unit. I scammed the photo a few minutes ago from eBay seller factoryradios who has the head unit listed for $250 including an added aux-in jack on the radio's front.

Hmm, bummer. Looking at the pictures on:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-00...fAudioQ5fVideo

(I have no connection to the seller, just linking to his ad because it has a picture of the connections on the back of the navi unit)

... it looks like the connections are totally different. =(

Unless PD can tell you for sure, you might try calling one of the eBay vendors like factoryradios and ask if they know if your nav harness can support a swap to the standard Pioneer head unit. My 2000 LS400 repair manual set seems to show that the same audio amplifier (the one under the front passenger seat) and CD player is used for both the navigation audio system and the standard Pioneer system.

It may be as simple as getting the harness that goes between the Pioneer head unit and amplifier. dcfish, the forum audio expert and used Lexus audio component vendor on http://us.lexusownersclub.com , can probably tell you and he is usually quick to respond to questions.
