Default Looking for a new LS430

Looking for an '02 LS430

First, I hope I posted this in the proper section. Here is the scoop. I would like to buy this car, However, I'm very adhering to my 'purchasing" principles when it comes to a new car. In this case, it must be wht, Ivory (Because of the color wood that Ivory comes with) and must have a NAV and cannot exceed what I am willing to pay for the car.

A local dealer has 2 of these and one at the port. Unfortunately, the best price he can offer is about $5500 more than I'm willing to. Its not so much the car but rather the NAV Package which is the extra $$$. $3500 tax also doesn't help.

Now perhaps some of you are saying, "What? He wants a pkg but he's not willing to pay for it?" (actually, I'm not willing to pay for the Mark Lev that this pkg comes with because I don't want the Mark lev) The thing is, with some patience, I've always been able to get my car for the price I want. I've owned 16 cars, 7 new, and I've never payed even close to sticker (and never will) for a new one. I've also waited for the 1st holdback period for new cars. And no matter what car it is, you will find your model which for some reason is not selling at a dealership.

Anyway, if anyone knows any dealers on the Forum or in the South Fla area (NOT Lexus of Palm Beach pls as this is a very unprofessional outfit) or even elsewhere who might be more aggressive with price, pls e-mail me at srebnick@fau.edu. TIA

Default Solution

Don't get an LS430 with the GPS/Nav nor the HL. Buy a good laptop computer for $1200, an add-on GPS/Nav for 300 to $500 and drive away very, extremely, happy.

I can't really speak directly about the LS430 nav system, but the one in my 01 AWD RX300 is so unreliable it is virtually useless. The Lexus Nav "firmware" has at least four MAJOR bugs/flaws.

Yet you do realize Lexus Nav systems surpass those of any other car company correct?? This isn't me being biased. It is a provwn fact and Lexus Nav systems have won awards for their technology. There system ebats out all German, American, and other Japanese navigation systems including those on Acura, Honda, Infiniti, and Nissan.

I'm sure the NAV perhaps has its flaws. But I'm not getting the NAV solely for the NAV, but rather for the Touch Screen controls of the AC, and RADIO. I think thats pretty slick. That pkg also comes with Voice Activation for the radio. That slick too.

Don't have any experience with the LS430....

But the ergonomics, human interface, of the gps/nav in my RX is... what word would be most appropriate?

I had a MY2000 RX first, it had a nice high contrast blue/green LCD screen which used well sized white icon and lettering to display control and indications.

The new Rx, 01, uses an LCD color screen which is perfectly find when displaying the moving map.

My RX has a screen saver mode, you can have a blank screen, or you can have the moving map, even if you're not using the Nav at the time. Blank or moving map, those athe only two default dispaly modes. Oh, in the Blank mode you can have the audio controls up.

If you wish to know the OAT indication you must bring up the display by "touching" some control function. Oops I now know the OAT but that "touch" changed the airflow routing.

If the design of the human interface aspects of the LS430 is even half as abysmal as the RX then you will end up hating upself for tainting such a wonderus, wonderful, vehicle as is the LS430 with the Lexus Nav.

Oh, did I mention that the font and icon size and contrast on the nav screen is so bad that it can't be easily read except by leaning closer? I admit that I am 62 and wear bifocals, but I didn't have this problem on the 00 RX with the same overall size display.

And I don't at all doubt that the Lexus Nav is the best there is in this "captive" class, that would be typical for Lexus. I'm sure that George W Bush was first in class at something.

Oooooh! You just mentioned the JM word. Perhaps one of the most professional LEXUS dealerships down here, but also the most greedy - disgustingly greedy I might ad. I happen to live 5 mins away from them. 1 yr ago I had a personal friend who worked there as a middle manager and I still could get the $$$ I wanted on the GS - So I went to Pines and found the car for the money I wanted (BTW, he works for a different non-lexus dealership now ). Fact is I have struck out 3 times with JM (today was the 3rd) and will not waste my time with them again. They can kiss my you know what. But thanks for the input.
