Default 1993 LS400 Doesnt move in Drive

Have a really weird problem on my 93 LS400.

I can shift the car (the shifter) into any position on the car however, today put the car in drive and it would NOT move forward at all.

If I put car in reverse it moves fine.

I did notice two very strange issues, that may help.

1) The shifter when putting my hand on it was a bit loose, but the OD light would flicker. My guess is the wires that go to the od are either frayed and not related to this but might be. I figured i'd ask.

2) In the morning, the shift into drive is extremely rough. In other words when I put the car into drive it lurches a bit. I've replaced the EGR pipe and valve as I saw in some other posts, but it hasnt helped.

Any ideas on why the car isnt moving at all in Drive?
Also is it related to points 1 and 2 above??

is your trans fluid full? it sounds stupid but if its low itll cause issues. also, since you replaced the gr pipe. check all the plugs to the trans. 1 might have come off or broken. the plastic connectors get brittle with age.

Its the fluid. In my car I have to add a quart after it says full on the dipstick. Works great though.

actually, if you have to add a qt after it says full, you prolly have a clogged/cracked filter screen. id drop the pan to clean it out and replace that screen.

Going on the flickering OD lamp and the fact that reverse is OK,it may be worth also checking the trunk hinge wiring,it causes some very strange things to happen and this could be another.

All of these are great suggestions, and I'll go through them all.

The big question I have now is where the fluid is potentially leaking from if Its low .

Will spend some investigating this as soon as I get home from my trip.

could be the front seal, rear seal, the trans pan gasket, a trans cooling line/hose, etc.. really just have to get under there and look. mine leaks from the pan. someone put a cork gasket, and when i park at the front of my driveway, which is a slight incline, it leaks at the back of the pan. i have a rubber gasket to put on after i get the engine back in next weekend.
