Hi, I just bought another 99, and it has the tilt/tele problem.
knowing 98 and up are different, is there a cheap fix for this?
my tele is working, but my tilt is NOT.
any help appreciated and photos of the parts are needed also.

same tilt fix should work on 98-00 as for 95-97.

i havent had the problem in my '99 but have popped that cover off since i got my '99 and it looked similar at the time (mind you it had been ~2years since i'd fixed the one in my '95).

so is it grinding or making noise as you try the tilt or is the motor not starting at all?

The TSIB's I posted back in 2007 have some pretty decent drawings of the tilt and telescope motors in the 99 LS: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ion-00-ls.html

Yes I used an independent Lexus shop. They used the ODB port and a laptop.

its not as simple as a normal code reader, you need a lexus/toyota specific scan tool that has bidirectional components only really found in professional equipment.

it's a CBEST setting.

here is my problem, I dont want to tear into this thing, if it has been disabled. I could not overcome that.
and what makes me think is has, is because when I just touch the key to my older 99, it starts moving...
but on the new one... nothing.. yet, if I move the switch toward me it starts extending. but I cant save it to perform again.
thats my delema....

got any wisdom for me?

Had my column replaced at apx 95k miles under warranty (CPO)

It did as you describe in that inserting key did not trigger usual automatic return to presets. I was too busy at the time and I am unsure what was done other than replacement. Took extra time as they requested factory approval. This actually happened while it was in the shop for a catalyst replacement. Good timing on both from a warranty perspective since the CPO was for 100k.
