Vibration
Hi all,
Need some advice on a problem that i'm having with my LS400 1994. The car seems to vibrate at high speeds only. I had my inner and outer tie -rods replaced and all four wheels aligned and balanced and still have vibration at high speeds (above 65mph). Sometime after driving for a long distance the vibration smoothes out and then it comes back.
I suspect four things but was hoping someone can point me the right solution.
The four that may be causing this problem:
Engine mount or tranny mount
Upper Control Arm
Ball joint
Lower Control Arm
if anyone have any suggestions that would be great!
Chuck.

For that age, can be a bunch of rubber suspension parts contributing to the vibration. Upper, lower control arms, strut bar bushings front and rear, diff carrier, tranny mount, engine mount, wheel bearings, warped rotors...ugh.
One of my past cars...it was an unlikely suspect...a bearing in the tranny had went south. It made mostly noise and when they put it on the lift and ran it at highway speed, it caused a vibration seen from the tranny through the drive shaft.

I don't know if you know the history of the car, but one thing that gets overlooked when it comes to vibrations is bent rims. The PO may have bumped a curb or two. If your balance guy is decently hepful he may let you watch as the rim is spun on the balancer and see if ther is any wobble, which can be hard to spot. Rims can be straightened. I had two of the rims done on mine by an outfit in Dallas. Can't remember the price.

I heard a very noticeable decrease in vibration/noise as well when I just recently had my transmission/engine mounts replaced. Pricey, but worthwhile to me

I would like to thank everyone for giving there advice on this problem. i did have the motor and tranny mounts replaced about 3 years ago. And the rims aren't bent. It dosen't seem, at least to me, that it could control arm upper or lower. i think will try to replace the mounts first.
