1993 LS400 Write-Off (had only 119500 KM/74250 Miles on the clock)
Hi all,
After enjoying my LS400 I have been deeply hurt to have to say that I had an accident and the car is written off.
It was one of the best rides in my life
Luckily, nobody got hurt...The guy in front of me drove into the back of my wife and since she was on the brake, she stopped him instantly...I drove back into him with a speed at around 30mph
Accidents = 1 second of not paying attention (I was searching for a song on my radio)
Total damages $9812.00 (parts for this car are not available here, so all the parts would need to be imported from Japan).
Point I took out of everything - pay big attention while you drive.

Damn Sorry to hear about your loss. Ironically, the damage to your LS is the same thing that happened to mine but on the left side of the car (as you sit in it). Bumper, hood, fender and headlight gone, along with radiator and who knows what else. Same year too.
You can buy the car from the insurance company but what happens (at least with Geico) is that they'll take the price offer of the car, minus deductible, minus salvage cost (what a junk yard would give you for it, supposedly. They said a junk yard would give me $600 I called and they offered $150....)
Usually its more cost effective to take the money and call it even, unless you really want to keep the car. But then from a mechanic stand point you run into problems of yeah the front is fixed but what else got shifted in the accident, then you have to start fixing other parts and it usually ends up being more expensive to repair.
We ended up taking the money and bought a 97 ls400 Coach Edition and man is this new car amazingly awesome to say the least.
Check out my thread for info on insurance claims on this if you have any questions
Good luck and happy hunting for the new one!

I took the money as fixing it here in South Africa will cost a fortune, remember I would have to import all the parts (when dealer does it the cost is x7 - x50 )...
I was looking at the cars available for me to buy, and I just don't like anything else but Lexus LS series
Now I'm looking to get an LS430, so let's see how it goes

Just got back from the dealer, and I am in my "new shoes" - 2001 LS430.
Now I can compare a bit, doe, I can definetly say for both of them (old & new) - the quality is outstanding...New one has more features, but all the other things are on the same spot - I think that these cars we are driving are very close to perfection !
I'll put some pics on now in a day or two !
P.S.I'm still paying close attention who is in front of me and how far
Drive smart - keep the distance - be awake & be safe !
