I was going to suggest changing out that temp sensor, then taking a look at the cold start valve if the problem persists...

definitely check out the water temp sensor. The one straight under the throttle body if memory serves.

Cold start valve? which one do you mean Jim?

Have you had your car plugged into a code scanner or even checked for codes by jumping the pins in the plug?

You need to stop replacing parts in the hope they'll sort it and get it diagnosed properly

The cold start injector. I was thinking it may be staying active even after the engine was warm, which is why I asked if he could smell fuel when it wouldn't start.

ahh right, unplug it even - might throw an error but could help pinpoint the problem

check fuel pressure and volume underload before assuming..

It might be your crank position sensor if you are having starting issues like this...it may be worth checking to see if it's going bad....let me know and I also agree that you should put a code reader on it--you might have a pending code that hasn't triggered your check engine light....Let me know what you find out and good luck....
