Default Cut the springs a bit to get low for 0 $$ ? And adapter question.

Hey folks.

I just got some 18" wheels with tires almost for free. They need some new paint but i think they would look really good on my LS4. The problem is that they are 5x108 instead of 5x114,3.

Well I tried to put one of the wheels on and looks very nice actually.

So i'm wondering if should buy a set of spacer adapters to convert from 5x114,3 to 5x108. But such adapters are 1.25" thick.

Here they are: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123

So would they fit probably? The wheels are 7x5x18 with ET48. The tires are 225/40-18.

Will the wheels stick out too much? I mean they cant go further than the end of the fender. Dont want them to rub.

And i'm also thinking about maybe cutting a ring from the springs to get it low for cheap.

Before everyone yells at me i know its not the best thing to do but i really need some OK looking car this summer hehe. I'm bored with the standard 15" snow tires and im all out of money right now.

Next year i'm planning on getting BC coilovers and later on put universal air bags instead of the springs and get some 20" wheels.

But for know i will start with these 18". What do you think?

if you can fit a polse dog between the top of the tire and the fenderwell, you know that it's too high! Cut the spring, you have got nothing to lose.

I wouldn't suggest cutting the spring, it can be potentially dangerous, so I am always against it.

There SHOULD be wheel adapter companies on ebay that may custom make them for you, and you should be able to get them in 25mm (1 inch) instead of 32mm (1.25 inch [31.75mm exact]). A smaller adapter will help assure that the wheels wont rub. Also you may look into stretching the tire to help with fitment, but only do that if you want to. When looking into adapters try to make sure they are hubcentric for the LS otherwise you may experience wheel balancing issues that will not be easily solved by wheel weights.

try http://adaptitusa.com/5-lugto5-lugadapters.aspx
they'll make whatever you want, including making them hubcentric.

the wheels will look weird because they are overly skinny, but whatever floats your boat. you shouldnt have too many fitment issues at stock height.

and don't cut your springs, save up and do it right, or be labeled ghetto and known to half-*** things.

anybody who works on cars can tell when you've just cut your stock springs the first time you go over a bump.

everybody is always against cutting coils but in the end it is a linear rate spring (progressive it actually makes a difference). when you swap out for an aftermarket spring guess what you get? a shorter spring.

i'mma call bs on being able to tell unless it was cut to the point where you run out of shock travel, even then it could just as easily be a too short/too soft aftermarket.

problem is, you're not going to be able to cut enough to really make a difference (1" tops) so in the end it's really just a waste of time for the sake of doing something.

Puredrifter > The link you posted is $44.75 for 1 adapter. Dont know if they ship to europe and what it costs.

With the link on ebay i can get 4 adapters including shipment to europe for $170.

Would it really be that bad to cut the springs. I mean its only for one year.

If i dont get the car lower with wheels on it looks really stupid.

before i got coilovers on my first LS, i cut the springs, about 1.5 coils out of front and rear. it sat just right, but was very bouncy. up to you if you cna live with the ride. later i got coilovers and the ride was as good as factory.

you're telling me you've never seen the occasional bouncy civic or twitchy 240 in your day?

it's not a question of only SHORTER springs, notice that every aftermarket spring, even the soft as butter Tanabe DF210s, have a spring rate that is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than the sock springs.

I wouldn't do it save some money. Wouldn't go with adapters too, waste of money since you're planning on buying different wheels anyway

Strange bolt pattern, from what car are they, a Volvo? pictures?

They are from a Ford Mondeo. Volvo also uses 5x108.

Looking pretty good on my LS i think. It just got to get down a bit.

A 1" or 1,5" drop would be fine. Right now is flying high.

19psi > Where did you cut the springs? At the top or the bottom? In the front its not possible to cut it at the bottom as the spring will fall out/down.

But if it gets cutted at the top its not center adjusted in the top? Please explain what you did.

Of course i dont like bouncy ride, but for the looks i think i could live with it until i got enough money for the BC coilover kit. Though its not legal in my country.

Yeah i know, you cant do any modifications over here legally. Its just stupid rules everytime.

In the picture the wheel only sits with 3 bolts ;-) They are not my dream wheels but for the almost free price i think its ok to buy some adapters.

I'm driving on winter tires now and they get worn out quicker when used in the summertime, so thats also an excuse to get some 18" summer wheels

But seriously i cant stand the look of those 15" no more. Wheels are half of a cars apperance. And when mounting bigger wheels you also have to get the car down more instead of flying.

I love my stock 16" wheels, but those seat my winter tires as well. I totally feel you on the tires melting like butter in the summer, it sucks.
