Default Can i use 93' power rack and pinion on my 91 LS?

Hmm i dont know if i should edit my signature because i have been having alot of failures on my 91 LS.

Now i have a rack and pinion taht leaks from the top and the left tie rod is loose. I can move it up and down so it makes a click noise from inside the rack. so i guess both the teflon rings and the top seal are done.

I cant find a cheap used one for my 91' LS. But i can find one from a 93' LS.

Can i use it or are they very different?

I cant affort a new one and a remanufactured is also alot of money for me right know.

Thank you.

The problem with a seal kit is that i must do without the car for a few days or so.

Is it hard to fix the rack by myself you think? I have been working on cars for several years now and know how to fix alot of things.

I have tried searching here on the forum on how to do it but only found a DIY of an SC but only how to change the old one with a new rack. He said that doing a seal would be too difficult.

But i guess if i can do it on my lift in a weekend i should have enough time. I will try and see how much lexus charge for a seal kit.

Well just talked with Lexus Denmark and they want $200 plus tax for the seal kit. Thats crazy. And he said that its not just THAT easy to do a reseal job. So i would rather buy a rebuild from ebay. But then again, i would be of fine with a used one for under $100.

But i can only find one from 93. The guy from Lexus Denmark told me that is was not the same as from 91, but could not tell the exact difference. So i guess i will have to get one from 89-92. Typically

Thank you William. I just dont know if i can do the job of changing the seals I really dont wanna **** anything up because i dont know what i'm doing. Would be a pitty if i cant use the car for over a week because it sits in the garage with broken rack.

I would like to se a DIY on how to do it first. I dont want to take it apart if i cant put it back together again.

I cant see if AutoZone ships worldwide and what it costs, but i can write them and see what they say.

I'm just more into getting another rack and replace the old one. I found a 91 rack the other day for $65 but it got sold the day before i asked to buy it. I'm pretty unlucky at the moment

well i dont think the problem is if you can put it back together. if you have the right tools that shouldnt be hard. the problem id be worried about is if it can be repaired. with the slop of the inner tie rod there could be scoring inside the rack that you cant repair. maybe a replacement rack is your best bet. and as far as autozone shipping world wide. im sure there is a member here that you could send paypal to to buy the kit and then mail it to you as long as you pay the shipping. shipping internationally isnt really that big a deal for car parts. i sell used supra parts to people overseas and have shipped many things from lowering springs to ignition parts and have gotten custom motor mounts and other things from abroad myself. if my ls400 ever gets totaled i have the motor mounts in the closet to fit the 1uz into one of my mk2 supras
