would like to replace oem stereo but read somewhere that if i do with after market stereo i will lose function of my subwoofer. not sure if this true or false, anyone w/ knowledge please help. also any suggestion of any new stereo that will fit.

It's true, but just do an aftermarket amp and you'll be all set... You can use any DIN or Double DIN unit with the right adapter from Metra
