I have a 95 ls400 it has 200,000 miles on it.I bought it off a friend that has had it since 98.But it has been park in his driveway for the last couple of years. When I first started drivein it,it drove just fine ,but now the trans doesnt act like it wants to shift gears. It tachs the RPM hand out till about 6000 RPMs before it will shift.Anyone got any ideas?

might be a plugged filter. Do a search and you can find out how to clean it.

Default Manual shifting

It ain't manual if you don't have a clutch.

I would start with flushing the transmission first and I recommend buying the toyota type 4 12 pack on amazon (I bought it for $60-$70 shipped). You will use up 8-9 quarts. After flushing it and you still have issues, change out the transmission filter and refill it. You should be fine after this but if the issue still remains (which I hope you dont have to do this because you will need to drop the pan again), purchase the shifter solenoids online and install.

I had a similar situation where my 91 ls400 would skip gears or wont shift when my car is at norm temps. Once I flushed and changed out the solenoids, my car feels brand new again. It's been a year and I commute daily (40-60 miles).

I also had a buddy who had the issue where his car (97 ls400) wouldn't move at all. He replaced the solenoids and is back to dailying the car.

And like 1on1 do the fluid change if nothing else, but he maybe on to something using the cooler line flush, just incase someone put the crap fluid in it. Dropping the pan first and make sure all is good there. No codes? ECU 's control the transmissions so ? 95 first year for obd2 lexus maybe a good scan tool will see something. just ideas here.

I forgot to mention as well regarding my friend, he also replaced the ecu capacitors and had a 2nd ecu. If you want, you can open the ecu and see if the capacitors are burnt. If you have a buddy who knows how to solder, ask him/her if they can replace the capacitors or send it out for service. This should be your last fix.
