Default i've got you all beat

A few days ago I filled up my tank. It took a little over 21 gallons. I got 513 miles out of that tank of gas. I consistiently run the car until the low fuel light comes on. I have to agree on the accuracy of the fuel guage. It is amazing. When the light comes on you've got about 4 gallons of gas left. For me, that basically means I can drive about 80-100 miles before refueling. Call me lazy, but I see no reason in refueling prematurely. I've had my car for over 5 years and have never had any issues with the fuel pump/dirty injectors/sludge/etc. Oh yeah, and that's using 87 octane. Before commenting you might want to read this article.

I'm glad to hear that because that is EXACTLY what I do! If there is stuff at the bottom of your tank, isn't it going to come out at one time of another anyways? Why not just let it flush out now and then run some injector cleaner like you are supposed to do every so often.

Default Gas mileage on a full tank!

Gas is draining me.On a full tank that costs exactly 30bucks in atlanta this car takes to 320 miles before the low gas light comes on.This is about 50/50 hwy and city.I feel I need a second car since 45-50 bucks a week is too much.

This is a 90LS.I am doing a tune up on it in two weeks and doing it myself.

Think that is normal--the loop speeds are 70+ !!!!!!

a '98 turbo-diesel 1.9 V W beetle will give you 60+ if you baby it--and it shouldn't cost that much.

I don't get it. First of all, miles per gallon is miles per gallon...the size of the fill up is irrevelant, except that hauling those extra gallons around will cause a fraction worse mileage than driving near empty all the time.

Second of all, the LS is a fairly efficient vehicle. If an extra $5 or $10 or even $20 per week is going to break you, then you should be driving a Tercel in the first place.

you will get better mpg if you remove your 2 middle mufflers, i did this at first def does not make you car loud at all it was still quiet as could be but i did notice a small difference i just run a 1/4 tank usually, 1/2 tank at most. i dont like to lug the unnessary weight ( i heard that each gallon weights 10 lbs) so running 10 gal 100lbs, vs. 20 gal 200 lbs, well u get the idea

An extra mile or two per gallon is not going to make a significant difference for you. What to consider is a car that will bring upwards of 30+ MPG and or a change in driving habits.

I can't tell you how many people I meet buy a new car to save $500-$1000.00 in gas per year, while taking a $5000.00 hit in that same year on depreciation! I'd buy a 1970 Chrysler New Yorker with a high compression 440 V-8 for $500.00 ( and there are lots of them in this town) and drive the hell out of it and still come out way ahead of those that seem to like depreciation.
I bought my 92 LS with 70k miles on it for $14k from the original owner who paid $60K for it (Canadian dollars). The car cost him 75 cents every mile in depreciation. I have a car that won't depreciate much more, drives like new, and gets 30 MPG (imperial) on the highway. Can life get any better?
Don't shop for fuel mileage. Gas is still the cheapest thing you spend on your car.

Good point. Gas is an easier route to follow as there will not be the extra investment in insurance and another vehicle, presuming he keeps the Lexus. Gas efficent vehicles can be had reasonably. Either way, there is a trade-off, he will have to decide if the cost of gas relative to an efficient vehicle will be better.

daryll40!you just jumped off the gun with this comment.I wouldn't want to start anything but to explain.I have had this car for 41/2yrs and I had many other cars like the 92 legend, accords, minivans etc....
I expect the this gas guzzling because it is a V8.All I am saying is that, I will not knock this car down but just to get another car with a smaller engine that will take me 450 miles on a full tank.My previous 93 accord took 17 bucks to fill and it took me 450miles before the gas light came on.I could imagine people with the suburbans which takes 60 bucks to fill.
Well some of you guys are not in my position to acquire cheap cars from the dealers auction since I have access. Most of you are right about loosing and depreciation in another vehicle. The route I would take will put me on top.For example I can go to the dealers auction and get a 94 altima for $1300 bucks.Maybe an axle or minor radio repair is required.I will then suspend the insurance on the Lex. and then push the altima. This car should not take more than 17 bucks to fill with about 400-450miles on a full tank.Yes you are right about this car depreciating quicker than the lexus and I may get close to nothing in a few years to come when I decide to sell it but I only paid 1200-1400 bucks for it.Insurance on this car is also less than the lex.I have always had a 4 cylinda car that did not consume gas as a second car.You are all right but I have access in getting these cars cheap. I could imagine of I had to pay $4000 for this NIssan then I will definitely be loosing. Then again I will sell the altima in about a yr and still get my money out of it.

It's great that you can buy older-but-good cars on the cheap. Nevertheless, the downside is that it still costs a premium to operate (even and older) premium car.

You still have a good m/g My LS will make about 280 m per tank.

P.S Just imagine that you driving my muscle car which
has between 3-5 m/g. than it's becoming expensive.
But they are V8 and I did not buy them for economy.

Just 2c.

Default Are you guys serious?

You mean 270mpg or even 220mpg?Wow!
That is terrible considering I have not even done a tune up in 4 yrs since I bought it.I fill mine up until the nozzle stops and even squeeze another $1.50 into the overfill.I drive until the gas light comes on and I am getting 310-320mpg.

it depends on the gas you use, i notice my car sips through Costco gas, while it guzzles down Chevron. I refuse to use Shell or Arco.
