I just bought a 96 LS400 (150K miles) as a parts car from an used car dealership (similar to a Carmax but Japanese owned). It was sold as a parts car because air suspension is out, and car won't start, and they did not want to sink more money into a 96.

Anyhow, hooked up a portable jump start battery pack, and was pleasantly surprised that all accessories work (except air suspension), but won't start even when I double jump (portable battery pack + jump starting from my 95 LS, as suggested by the used car dealer). I don't even get a click from the starter.

I am thinking it is probably a bad starter, solenoid, relay/fuse, or lose connection somewhere, but before changing anything I better try resetting the anti-deterrent ECU thing (locking and unlocking door 4 times) routine, since the car was at a dealer and probably handled by a lot of different people.

My first question is, if the ECU is in anti-deterrent mode, would all the accessories still function?

Second question is, does the Valet key look any different from the Master key? This 96 key (valet or master I do not know) looks just like the 95 key (master).

Under what circumstances are anti-deterrent mode engaged? And what year LS's have this type of anti-deterrent feature (killing starter, and the locking and unlocking 4 times resetting sequence).
