Default Mechanic Says Lifters are Tapping?

Went and got an oil change on my 93 LS400 today and the mechanic says the lifters are tapping? He said something about adding some solution to the gas or oil? Or maybe even running the oil a 1/2 quart low? Is it as easy as this or is it something I need to worry about? Whats the best product to add to help tapping lifters?

Thanks in Advance,

Add half a quart of marvel mystery oil to your engine and see if it helps reduce the ticking sound. You can buy MMO at wal-mart if you can't find it at the local parts stores.

If your valves have begun tapping, there is no magic elixir to take up clearances. A valve adjustment will take up clearances. And it is during the valve adjustment, that you may find that there was a lubrication issue. If (particularly the left bank rear intakes) you have valve clearances that have opened up by .008" to .010" then you have a lifter bucket failure in progress. The valve stem will drill itself right into the lifter. This is common with sludgy engines, and there is no true cure but to pull the camshafts and replace the lifter buckets that have a dot depression right where the valve contacts it.
