Default Differences in '96 & '00 steering racks

Replacing my mothers '96 LS400 steering rack with a low miles used unit. Steering is very hard. The PPS solenoid does not have the plastic ring screen and the solenoid gets clogged very quickly. The rack itself also has sort of a notchy feel to it so I'm replacing it with a good used rack with a solenoid and screen. My question is, I'm looking into a 2000 LS400 rack. As far as I know the only difference between the 95-97 and 98-newer 400's is the solenoid connector is different. I'm planning to just splice the old connector onto the 2000 rack. It should fit fine right? This rack has low miles and I want to make it work. I don't see how Lexus would have changed the whole crossmember/tie rods/mounting location/etc... to do a minor face lift like they did for the latest model 400's. Looking foward to getting this car back into reliable fashion for her. The rack was replaced years ago by a shop but I'm sure they didn't use an OEM unit, hence maybe part of the reason I'm having issues.

I don't know. You can call a Lexus dealer to see if the part numbers are different for a 96 and a 2000... Or check online to see if one reman is being offered that covers 96~2000...

The answer is no. It would mount up okay but the solenoid is in a different position with a built in connector without the pig-tail. Maybe you could solder the male connector on the harness of the car and it would work but without doing that it won't work.
