Or would it be smarter to have it upgraded? Has anyone used these people before?

Try this first:
(when your throttle body was cleaned, it is possible that your throttle switch/transmission cable adjustments were disturbed)
Readjust all cables and the throttle switches.

Your torque converter is designed to release on throttle overrun (this is the switch adjustment) and if the signal does not reach it before the engine hits compression braking, you get a decel jerk.

Likewise, if the torque converter does not relock-up before the engine is putting out, you get a jerk in the acceleration direction with an annoying rpm surge just before lock-up. Please be accurate with these adjustments. There are stops pinched on the cables that must be within 1mm of the end of the cable sheath.

Colin,
Do you have any pictures of which cable is which and what direction to adjust them? If I have some good pictures I will go to work.

Any one have access to the TSB on this issue. I would like to know if it's just a reprogram or if a new ECU(96-97) would correct it.

As far as I know, 95 is a freak year and the ECU is a 95-only deal.

Let me get back to you. The more I think of it, the less I believe my hare-brained notions. As I drove down from Vermont, I could feel the torque converter locking and unlocking and I am not sure it could cause all that much in the way of jerkiness. For fun, try driving with overdrive off and let me know if the symptoms go away.

i love internet boards. everyone has had similar experiences but SOME PEOPLE can GARUNTEE!!! its exactly the same fix that theres was.

i experienced this one day after removing my TPS sensor and installing it again. i drove home from work and wow everytime i let off the gas even just a hair, the damn car would slow down like i was tapping the brakes. very hard to maintain a decent cruising speed i coudl either get on the gas and accelerate or slow down. even my cruise control had problems holding speed.
i properly adjusted my TPS and problem solved. its worth a try and is free to do. and i would suggest trying this before going to the dealership or replacing tranny and motor mounts and rear ends and whatever else everyone is telling u that they garuntee the problem is.

out of curiousity, what do you idle at? and what does it idle at in gear? if its idling low then signs point towards a improperly adjusted TPS which is connected to the throttle body. and to further point out when i first removed my throttle body i also removed the TPS sensor to get a better angle on the coolant hose clamps that were hidden behind it. you said your throttle body was cleaned recently?

LINK: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/EFI/tps.html

now if your concerned, like i was, that your TPS might be bad i can dig around on this board some more to find a previous post of mine where someone actually posted some tests you can perform with a DMM to further diagnose your TPS. let me know and i hope this helps you.

Hi nervekiller, the 95-up LS models are throttle by wire and do not have a throttle position sensor to adjust.

the 98-00 are dbw. 95-97 used normal throttle cables.

And the tps tells the torque converter to lock and unlock via the torque converter lock and unlock solenoid moderated by more computing power than the moon shot. When it does not unlock, you get magnificent high compression V8 engine braking . . . perhaps.

Thanks for that. No unintended acceleration for me! The safety of steel from pedal to wheel

yeah until our cables seize or freeze..
had this happen once on a customers car he had aftermarket headers on his ford escort (yuck) that ended up melting his throttle cable.. car revved to 3,000 rpm and wouldnt come down when i pulled it out the shop.

Question

i have a 1996 ls400 and it was in a wreck before i bought it and i was not aware of it. when im driving, and let off the gas, it jerks to the right, and a little to the left. and it feels like im riding on a shark or something ( back and forth motion) i have no idea what it is. the front shocks need to be replaced bad. could this be why it does that?
