So is that gas? because its on both sides they look like that...

ANY possible chance its oil from the air compressor and lines to the rear suspension that was swapped to coils??

If it's gas, you're not going to me mad, you're going to be dead!

Looks oily like brake fluid residue. Get your fingers up around those hard lines and verify what it is. Other symptoms would be dropping brake fluid in the reservoir. Are you noticing a drop in any fluids?

Best thing to do would be clean and degrease the entire area, drive, then get under the car and see what's leaking at the highest point. Otherwise you'll be just throwing money at random parts

These are responses I was looking for!

RA40, what makes you say brake fluid? It would make sense considering the pedal has some sponge to it, but nothing I wouldnt expect from an older car. The reservoir is fine on level, but I should probably check again. It is oily and it doesnt smell like gas, but gas stops smelling bad after it evaporates.

I was thinking of pulling my gas tank tomorrow and getting a good look in there. I hope its not the hard lines for the brakes... and if I take the tank out, then I have to buy a bunch of gaskets because most of them are not reusable.

Don't drop the tank, that is unnecessary at this stage.

Differential fluid has a very distinct smell as well. When was the last time you had the fluid back there drained? If one of the seals has gone south in the carrier this may also be an origin for fluids. As it migrates out, the rotation of the axles may cause it to disperse on the underside like that. If it is oily, the source of such fluids is limited back there. Brake fluid or diff fluid. Unless you have some mess in the spare tire well that is leaking out but that is further back and I don't recall if there is a drain plug.

I doubt the grease coming out from the boot judging from the length of the darker part.

the cv boot was eliminated previously due to the metal above being consistently wet. Im starting to think its brake fluid personally based on the metal being wet

I would think it's some sort of grease/oil fluid like brake fluid or rear end fluid. Gas wouldn't attract dirt at all. I would keep an eye on your brake fluid, a tiny hole could seep and keep enough pressure in the brake systems for a while. What i don't get is this happens on both sides?

Boom. Thats my confusion too. The drivers side is like 1/4th as bad, but same deal. wet metal feel attracting dirt. Thats why my first thought was air suspension leaking because the back was switched to coils but all the stuff is still there.
