Help me find headlights..
Trying to find some headlights/foglights for my '91 LS400. The ones I have now are apparently swapped in from a different year LS400..they have retaining springs. The original '91 headlights just have a black lock ring, per the manual.
So, anyone know where I can find some decent headlights for a good price?
I've checked about fifteen salvage/foreign parts places and no luck.

Huh?? The headlights for the first gen LS (89-94) are exactly the same with 1 exception. 89-92 used a 9004 bulb and 93-94 used a 9003 bulb. The fog lights are not different at all. Physically the headlight assembly is the same. Post some pics so we can see what you are trying to figure out/solve.

The lights in my car right now are 9004's o.O
I'll post pics tomorrow. There's a black lock ring, but it doesn't have a place to 'lock' on to, was just floating there, and a large grey lock ring that holds a rubber boot in place. One of the assemblies has a retaining spring for the high/low bulb, the other is missing it.

EDIT,,, flip that 89-92 used 9004,,93-94 used 9003 bulbs. I always get this mixed. If you have 9004 bulbs in now, then they are the correct ones for the car and ONLY came from an LS from years 89-92. Sounds like the piece for the ring to snap/lock on to is broken. Pics of the back of the headlights will help greatly.

The car has had some front end damage..The actual headlight/fog light mounted inside the headlight mounting bracket have writing on them like they came from a salvage yard.
'91 headlights didn't have a retaining spring for the high/low, just the fog light, right? I think someone put the wrong year headlights in to the mounting bracket, because the 9004's were just jury rigged in to place, and the black lock rings were just free floating behind the boot/bulb. I have them in there a little more solidly with a few custom machine bushings I cut out to fit, but the bulb doesn't sit in far enough, and I have horrible pattern/light output.
I wish I could find pics of the back of a '91 headlight assembly!

Just take pics of what you have. Like I stated b4,, if you have a fitting for a 9004 bulb, then the headlights are from the correct series/year. You may just have a damaged set of headlights since you stated the car has prior front end damage.

I lucked in to a deal on eBay for both driver and passenger headlight assemblies for $100. I'm having them overnighted so I'll be able to drive down to Texas for the holidays..The seller sent several photos via email so I could make sure they're the correct ones.
This is what my headlight assembly SHOULD look like from the rear. Instead I have a rubber boot and a large grey lock ring...definitely from a different year.

yes,, the pic above is what your headlights SHOULD look like. You still got me kinda curious as to what you PHYSICALLY have on your car. Post up a pic of the headlights you are taking off when you do switch them out. Merely curiosity to me at this point. The bulb in the pic IS the 9004 bulb, and you have been stating to me that you have this type of bulb, but it was joy-rigged in there to work. If that is the case then you truly MAY have the headlights from the later half of the first gen 93-94 which were the same housing PHYSICALLY, but utilized a different bulb (9003).
