IIRC the EGRs on those years are 2 pieces upper and lower.

You will fail emissions and will loose 1-2 MPG. EGR is good for the car and environment. Better off just to fix it.

Did he ever follow up on a parts list? Did he use compression fittings or a flairing kit. I'm gonna try this.

The whole project took you an hour? How did you get to the part so easily?

Not to thread jack, but could explain why it is better for the car? I know it is better for the environment, but how does it benifit the car. I thought it was just for emissions. I would have thought it would perform better without the egr related stuff, because you would be keeping used exshaust gasses out of the intake? Lextreme's website with the block off kit makes it seem that you benifit from blocking it off.

I only ask because I've been thinking of buying the kit, and would like to clean up the look of the engine a bit. Again, sorry to thread jack.

Now time for some pics.

Culprit....

The beginning the pipe cut and flared

Some High temp Copper RTV.....little overkill but hey taking the pipe out was no fun

Finished product

So how did this fix hold up over time?

I have a hard time following your thinking.... a few years back, my 97 pipe leaked, went to sewell and bought a new one and put it on.... finished (done a little write up for the right cat removal... NOW THINK.. the first one lasted 10 plus years and over a 100k miles.... why, WHY are you trying to beat around the bush??? are you really going to be driving yours another 100k, 10+...?? all for a 100$.
confusing to my way of thinking....

also i fear that the new tube will not hold to hot temperatures. that is a natural gas line iirc (for waterheaters, dryers, etc), and is not made for high temps, or is it?!

According to his user info, El Maestro, the guy who started this thread, rigged up the pipe, and posted the pictures has not posted anything on the forum since October of 2010. I highly doubt we are going to get our answer on if this thing held up to the test of time.
