Default need help on the custom turbo

I can find a shop here in my town that can install custom turbo on the first generation LS for about $2000-3500 (depend on the brand of the turbo, intercooler etc). Does any of you guy know any problem with custom turbo install on the engine which is 7 years old? I'm not too sure what is the maximum boast on the custom turbo without ruining the trasmission. Does anyone havbe any ideas?

try a thread on the second page...we were discussing it lately. I don't think that $3500 will get you anything custom made for Lex. Your biggest consern is transmission, not engine. From what a few tuners told me the normal boost for stock engine like that would be 8psi.

Caution: $3500 installed for a custom turbo system seems TOO cheap. Anything is possible but someone with a welder and a hack saw does not make a turbo engineer. Most single turbo kits sell for at least $3000 WITHOUT install and definitely not custom.

Is is possible. Sure, anything is theoretically possible. Before I would let someone work on my Lexus I would want to see a couple of the cars they BUILT... NOT installed... BUILT the turbosystem for. I would want to talk to a couple of happy customers, so on, so forth.

The above notwithstanding, the engine should handle 8psi of INTERCOOLED turbo boost IF there is NO detonation. Tranny life will probably suffer but fortunately the Supra turbo uses the same automatic tranny and upgrades are available from the Supra tuner shops. Also, the cost to get the system is just the entry fee. Maintenance and repairs become a whole new issue. Make certain to budget at least 50% more for the initial costs and 20% of the total cost in yearly maintenance. Sorry to be a buzzkill but I sold turbosystems for 2 years and have BEEN there. Now, a properly turbocharged LS400 would definitely ROCK! Just understand it is no simple task.
