LS400 with LS460 Rims
Sorry pure drift original post was not aimed at you, was aimed at everything I have found regarding getting 460 rims on a 400, that is why I said "They"...as far as I know this is the first one it has been done on. So here is an edited post, original can be see below...Will work with adapters, used custom adapters, 5x4.50 to 5x4.75 1.25 inches thick shaved .25 inches and drilled to accept bigger studs, was going for an updated look over stock rims, have $650 in wheels tires adapters and lug nuts/studs as the lugs are bigger on the 460 rims. $100 in machine shop charges. The shaved part of the adapters... 1/4 in was taken from back of adapter and did not affect the material where the studs are pressed in. As far as not being safe, i don't feel company's would sell adapters to put on cars if they would face liability in doing so. Would not want to push the cars limits with adapters but as far as driving "normal" I have seen no problems. After completing the adapter I found company's on the Internet that made custom adapters that are hub centric for around 250.00, if I were to do it again I would get this done and have them made 3/4 if possible as the rear fender had to be rolled, this was done when the car was painted and I did not factor this in on the cost above, but I have found places around me that will roll them for 50.00 per fender. Might not be a bad idea to have this done on all 4 depending on what size tire you use. The better option may be to have the rims redrilled like they are saying below, I was not aware this was an option. Just wanted to let anyone know that had wanted to put 460's on their 400, that it can be done...just will not bolt on, and let them know what it looks like, as the only picture I have seen was with the rims photoshopped in.

Potentially an issue though a competent shop can drill and sleeve wheels for such a conversion. There would be increased risk if the car were tracked-raced. Ideally, a properly fitted wheel is the conservative safe way to go considering a poorly executed job can be life threatening.

many folks here in the greater socal area run redrilled wheels. as mike stated, depending on the conversion, sleeves are used to change the lug pattern. of course many of them do no use the wheels on the track but i can contest to the durability of the job. of course, like all things modified, it's all in the quality of the job.
lots of VW guys do this.
from complete changes
to subtle (sleeves)
