Default Two low pressure fittings for A/C ~ why?

I noticed there are two low pressure fittings at the firewall for the A/C, one on each side of the valve? / manifold. Does it make a difference which one is used to recharge the system? I am assuming there are two so that pressure can be checked on either side of the switch/valve manifold for diagnostic purposes.
