Hey what would be the least problematic toyota mfrd diesel powertrains to sit into UFC20&21 LS's. Trying to Go green need some help.

there isnt one that's least problematic. whatever you do will be custom, and your selection of engines will be something from the 80's, and likely a 4cylinder. toyota hasnt really been bringing tons of diesel engines into the US.

'sides, who said old diesel engines were in any way "greener" than petrol? you're better off driving slow in your LS and getting ~20-25mpg combined.

Yeah transplanting a diesel won't make the car "green." If you want a big car that's diesel, I believe Benz is the only way to go. I forget if Audi has put the TDIs in the A8 (at least in the U.S.)

The whole "green" thing is a scam if you ask me. IIRC, all things considered, a Toyota Prius will do more damage to the environment (from processing of raw materials to the showroom floor) than a Hummer H2.

But that's just my $0.02

Instead of an engine transplant which would be a disaster....

Convert to propane. VERY clean and a much better alternative if you just want to decrease your pollution.

If you REALLY wanted to spend the time and money to get something like that done, you would be looking at the 2L-TE or 2L-THE diesel.

They would likely have to be imported from Japan.

This is a 2.4 litre turbo diesel that puts out about 100bhp and about 180 lb/ft.

I owned a Toyota Crown when I lived in Trinidad that came with this from the factory. That car was also available with the 1UZ so in desperation, it could work in the LS. It was nice and smooth, really quiet too; to the point that I repeatedly had to convince the pumpmen at the gas stations that it was indeed diesel.

Not a lot of power on paper, but it was nice. Kinda slow to get started but once going acceleration at speed was pretty sweet. Amazing on the highway. The sound of the turbo was awesome too.

lol ^ there are a whole bunch of diesel options to you, and i wouldnt look at anything older than a couple of years old. The hilux 3L turbo diesel would be the one to go for... with that said, diesel is a bit of a joke in my book. Do an LPG conversion on your 1uz

4.5L 286HP, 650NM from 1600-2800rpm.

BTW,

right now Audi makes the biggest Diesel over here.
Q7 V12TDi 6.0, 500hp, 1000NM, 0-100km/h 5,3s.

Diesel engines have many qualities. From a survivalist point of view they can run on many fuels. A pre-computer diesel with a mechanical injector pump could be a very important vehicle if we were to experience a EMP attack.

Hopefully, that will not be the case.

Only suggested it because I know that engine and the 1UZ has lived in the same model out of the factory therefore a swap should be easier than a complete retrofit.

It definitely isn't the most powerful or modern diesel by no means.

I wanted to convert to a diesel block and run it on processed waste cooking oil. Run it through the right catalytics its way less polluting than normal fuels and with these fast food joints around here especially the small chains i can get fule way cheaper. Im trying to exploit the cheapness and have it smelling like frenchfries.

Everyone that posted blick suggestions thanks i have a bit to look through or research. Im going to check it out those jdm blocks seem best options but ill have to go through the mounts the tranny and rear and suspension as well huh. how should it mate up.

you can't convert just to a diesel BLOCK, you have to convert EVERYTHING. that means engine management, FULL MOTOR SWAP, fuel lines, fuel tank, pump, etc.....

just buy an old mercedes.

My dad did a couple conversions in those Toyota Crowns he uses as taxis and the conversion goes as far as replacing the internal wiring harness for engine control and other stuff.

It's a real PITA.

Hi,

a modern Diesel will not run on cooking oil! The high pressure injectors will get clocked.
It works with the old non turbo Diesels, but in winter you will get in trouble!
