Default Who has had to replace their EGR valve?

I have had to replace it since ive gotten the car. but I kinda forgot about it

how important is it to replace this? should I just leave it alone?

does it only fix the fluttering sound that it gives off?

or does it have any other improvements? such as any added power? or gas consumption? (im kinda guessing no)

any feedback is appreciated, THANKS!

I had replaced mine about 4 yrs ago (at around 225K miles) due to the cel code. No significant improvements in gas mileage, performance ...

I replaced mine recently on my 97. when I did, my transmission started working better too. Doesn't down shift as often, and going up some hills on the way home with the CC on it doesn't shift at all. I wouldn't say there was a significant improvement in MPGs but there was an improvement. Also now the tranny is shifting much much smoother.

PITA though. My mech removed the passenger cat, then removed the tranny cross member to angle it down a little bit... Oh yeah.. that reminds me... replace the tranny mount while you're down there. :P

wait do u need the EGR VALVE or PIPE? the valve itself is easy to replace as its right on top of the motor. the pipe on the other hand is behind the engine, cramped between the firewall.

can someone also fill me in on how the EGR will help the tranny shift?

The pipe usually busts or cracks in between the valve and the exhaust pipe. The valve needs a good cleaning, but could be replaced if you really need it to.

I would use the EGR delete kit if my state would allow me to. The pipe is annoying.

im guessing the egr pipe then. I remember my mechanic took a test drive and said "yep, youve gotta do the EGR"

so he didnt say pipe or valve. he just said EGR. its a fluttering sound. so its the pipe? not valve right?

Most likely the pipe since it is not uncomon to go. I need to have mine done myself. Think I am gonna look into the delete kit myself.

I did notice that when the EGR valve is plugged in, the car doesn't have the hesitation between 44-45 mph. I'm thinking of leaving the valve on there, but using the delete kit to block the actual hole so I'll pass a visual inspection.
