Steering Wheel Buzz??
I have a 1993 LS4 with 210k. When I try to adjust the steering wheel, I get a buzzing sound, like the motor or gear is stripped. If I pull on the wheel while pressing down on the **** it will move (after about 10 tries). I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem before or has a solution for it besides buying a new one.

Search this forum for the word "tilt" and you will find several threads on how to fix your problem -- one recent thread even has a link to a Youtube video that shows how it's done. It is a very common problem.

If the problem is that it won't tilt then here is part of a response I had on the LS430 forum:
I had the problem on my LS400 and fixed it myself
I have an LS400 and an LS430. About 6 months ago the tilt stopped working on my 400. Your symptoms sound the same. The gear is turning but not engaging. I looked on the net and found references to the fix.
If the gear is turning but nothing is happening then the problem may be that the cog gear is offset from the worm gear. Put a garden hose washer behind the cog gear and it works like new. Takes 30 minutes max and that offsets the motor gear assy at about $600 and labor of about $300.
I don't do my own maintenance but I could handle this.
Here is a youtube on how to fix it.

In this LS400 forum there is a sticky "UCF20...LS400 FAQ"
It has a link to a thread on tilt that shows pictures.
I used a garden hose washer and it worked great.
If the problem is telescoping than you have a much bigger can of worms.
Good luck.

I didn't add grease or lubricant. I just put some of the grease that had been displaced on the worm gear threads. The plastic clamshell that covers everything has 2 screws (as I recall) behind the steering wheel. Turn the wheel 90 degress and you'll see the first of the screws. I seem to recall 1 screw on the bottom of the clamshell. The clamshell will then pop apart with a little pressure at the seams. I didn't have any problems with getting any of the components apart.
I hope this fixes your problem. This was the fastest avoidance of a $900 repair that I've ever had.
