1990 ls400 headlight bulb replacement

i just got a 1990 ls400 with a blown headlight bulb and im having the hardest time trying to figure out how to get in and change the bulb can anyone help me out

there are a few ways 2 go about this, first which side is it on driver or passenger side?

passangers is easier unscrew the screws holding it in place and remove. will have to remove the corner light also. Drivers side you can do the same. but will have to remove the battery also!

This should help a little as it shows how to remove the foglights:

the drivers side but i want to replace both driver and passenger side

if its only the head light bulbs, all u need 2 to is take out the battery and the intake filter housing which just clips off
u can reach the bulb without taking out the whole head light assembly

yes its just the bulbs im changing

I've done it through the hole that's left when the side park light is removed but the driver side is a PITA that way.

If you have big hands and/or are lazy/impatient, removing the battery is more straightfoward believe it or not. If you don't want to do that and have the patience it is possible through the space after removing the park light.

Instructions are also given in the owners manual which includes details for access to all bulbs on the car.

x2. the easiest way to do this without getting pissed off and tearing your hands up and possibly breaking the new bulbs.

I don't know about you guys, but I find 4 bolts/screws for the headlight assembly is a lot less bothersome than taking out a battery.

now how exactly do you propose to get to all 4 attachment points without taking out the battery?

iirc there's at least one that's basically right in front of the battery mount :uh:

It isn't necessary to remove the battery or the part of the intake to remove the headlight units and change bulbs. Do it the way the Lexus manuals say to do it. Just remove the corner light and three other bolts/nuts and the whole light unit comes right out.

I must have removed and replaced both headlight units in a 90 LS four or five times in one evening trying different bulbs -- only takes a couple of minutes per side if you do it the way Lexus recommends.

Would this be the same process for a 93 Ls400? I need to change both of my lowbeam lights

The process is the same for 1990-1994 LS models. The 1993-1994 LS has revised headlamp lenses to change the light distribution, but the headlamp assembly installation and removal procedures did not change.

Take a look at my old post here:
