Default Made home on 4 cylinders

The car just cut out on me on the highway, lost most of its power. No CEL though, and when I made home, I looked under the car, and my passenger side cat is fine, but drivers side cat is glowing red.

So now, I know its the ignition and not the fuel, because otherwise the cat wouldnt be heating up. What is it most likely to be?

Ignition coil?
Ignitor?
ECU?

what else?

Thats what I think too. Is that the one on top or the one burried underneath?

Usually the the passenger side (hidden one) is the first to go out due to its exposure to greater heat.

Are you positive the hidden one is the passenger side? Because the coil itself is on the drivers side.

It might be different on the LS. I've replaced it on our 93 SC a while ago, so i might be mistaken. My apologies. However, i do remember the hidden one is the one the usually goes out first.

Well I just ordered a new ignition coil, they are both the same, so its not one, than the other.

I replaced the hidden one about three years ago, so it might be the one on top. However, when I replaced the hidden one I didnt use an OEM part, so it might be another lesson learned not to use aftermarket crap.

This should help a little,,,

The passenger side one is circled in red. The driver side one is a little hard to get to. I wound up pulling the battery and removing the tray just to get a little more extra clearance. The pic is of a later model LS, but location is still the same. When mine went, I just went ahead and replaced both of them.

Yep, trunk, thats what I thought, the hidden one is the drivers side. I've replaced it before, and I also had to remove the battery tray.

I've ordered an OEM unit and will replace it as soon as it arrives.

Hello,

one ignition coil is not running one bank. It runs 2 cylinders on each bank.
My driver side ignition coil went out last year.
Check your cats they are probably ruined after driving for 30 mins! Mine are!

Hi,

I hope so, too!
I noticed that my cats were gone when I took the smog test!
