HELLO FRIENDS
I recently purchased a 91 400 and last week a 94 400. the 91 had of course, a bad LCD on Climate Control unit and I sent it in to Auto & Truck Electronics for R&R of LCD. They replaced the LCD and all burned out bulbs for $ 99.00 and return shipping included! Now I have the 94 and found out they also repair ECU's. Well last week they were charging over 200.00 and I found a place that did ECUs for 100. Well I spoke to them and they now will repair Lexus ECU's for $ 99.00 same as Climate Control Units>

I also have a 94 LS400 with 300K+ miles. Just recently have noticed a hesitation at start-up and also when coming to a stop and/or idle. Think I would like to have my ECU repaired by your recommended service shop.

However, I don't know where the ECU is located and how to get it out or install it once repaired? Can you help me with the location and how hard it is to get out or to install?

Also, assume that when it is out of the car, I will not be able to drive it? How long did it take for them to repair the part once you shipped it to them?

The engine ECU is located behind the panel under the glove box. To take it out you have to
1) Remove the panel at the passengers feet. It's fasted with clips so it's not hard to take out.
2) Remove the glove box. You need to do this to aces all the screws that holds the panel under the glove box.
3) Remove the panel under the glove box. If I don't remember wrong the the engine ECU is the one at the far right.

And you can't drive the car without the ECU. I have no idea how long it can take to repair. I took mine out to replace it with a Mine's ECU.

ecu removal with a little more details.

To remove the ecu (disconnect battery) open the glove box and remove the inner liner by poping out the small round clips in the floor and roof of the glovebox. You will have to remove the little arm that is attached to the right corner of the glovebox door. Just pop off the little cover where the arm attaches to the glove box door and the arm will slide off.

Pull out the liner and you will see a bolt on both far sides of the gbox hinge that were covered by the liner. Remove them.

Now pop off the very lower panel right above the footwell. Now Look under the dash and remove the 10mm bolts that attach the middle panel section. There are about 4 of them.

There is one more bolt behind the uppermost carpet section that goes along the console. peel the carpet back right there and remove that bolt. The panel will come out and the ecu is bolted to that.

The folks had a 24 hour turn aound time on my ECU and Climate Control!
Just got back the ECU yesterday and what a difference it made. $ 99.00 lifetime warranty! Normally 24 to 48 is standard for them

I sent my ECU to ATE on a Monday(reg ground )they probably got it late Tues. early Wed.They did their fix in one day and sent it back out Thurs. and I'll get it Mon.(a week turn around) If you can't do without your car, pay for 1 or 2 day air and get-r-done.

Mcswine, low idle usually has nothing to do with ECU. Most of the time its two things.

1) Dirty throttle body

2) Leaking air valve on the bottom of the power steering pump

or both.

How about fast idle ( around 2000RPM)
