Default Ls400 interior swap

Dear friends, I have a chance of getting a 1996 LS400 wrecked but real nice interior. Is there a way to replace my 1991 LS400 interior (Seats, frt/back and carpet) with the ones out of the 1996 model? Little work, lots of work or impossible?
Thanks

some things might work, most won't without some modifications.

wiring in the seats (to get the memory to work) might be a problem. as will the actual rear seats.

i'd bet the rear seats and carpet probably won't fit but don't know for sure.

I've heard along the same lines as PureDrifter has stated.

I'm uncertain on whether or not the rear seats will fit, but I do know that the rear passenger leg room area was increased starting in MY95 meaning that your door sills and B, C pillar plastic may not fit properly along with the carpet.

I think you should try it out and post up your results if you can get it at no/little cost. Your info/experience could be very helpful to this community. Good Luck.

Thumbs up

Think I may well do that, I do not know mileage but the 96 was damaged rear frt and one door, has super interior and great good running engine and tranny and I can pick it p for 1350! Thought if nothing else I can turn $$$ parting out! It has 18" chrome OEM wheels that I want to put on my 91, should be no problem with that or....(?)
Thanks guys for replies

you can buy it, but you won't be allowed to part it out on this forum due to rules in place to prevent people buying up cars with the intent to sell them, especially newer members.

the wheels will fit, see how much you can get them for.

well guys and gals, I went to Houston TX after calling a place that told me they had an interior, black that was in good condition (??) well, worth trying, went 200 miles and looked at them !! Nice condition, priced at 500 for L-R Frt and back, looked over 2 ls400's and found center console in black, (my interior 2 tone grey nicer combo but totally worn out). Looked more and found matching steering wheel (mine worn out leather), nice complete ashtray, nice wood bezel for shifter, 1 chrome Wheel cap and finally one nice deck lid with emblems but no lights, only needed deck lid!! Great people as I got the whole thing for $ 500.00!!!
Will take before & after pics and post them.
Thanks for your help in the decision making.

Not that difficult at all. I've install 01 LS430 seats into my 94. There are four bolts, two per rail, that hold the seat in. Two bolts on one of the rails matched up exactly, so it was a bolt in, and the other rail didnt match so I had to make a custom bracket.

Then I cut off the harness from the old seat and spliced it onto the new seat. There are basically a bunch of wires, but most of them are for the memory seat control. Only two wires are needed to power the seat, and they are the two thick wires. I basically made sure my seats are fully powered, then it was a bit of a trick to get the seat heater to work, but I got them working, and I also got the seatbelt tension reducer to work.

What I couldnt make work are 1) memory function, 2) seatbelt buckle illumination (useless), 3) seatbelt warning light on dash (also useless). The memory function between 94 and 01 was just too different I didnt even bother. Memory mirrors still work.
