Really tuff problem can't diganose Please help
 

1993 LS 400; latly ddriving around it the little car light is on (Have checked wires on trunk hinge all good).
Sometimes it is like the key is shut off for a split second makiking the car jerk and buck. Throttle goes up and have checked the check engine light for codes. All it does is make the CEL go so fast and continulsly you could not even count them.
It seems more like a short, and sometimes the negative battery cable will get so hot it starts melting the insulation off the cable and I have to pull the cables off the battery
Anyone have any ideas????? Am at a loss. Need help bad.

check your negative battery cable at the battery and any grounds it may connect to. if it is getting hot it means that it is reapeatedly losing its connection and regaining its connection very quickly causing it to get hot and lose the insulation

i have heard of starters going bad that have had that symptom, other thoughts....alternator, direct ground somewhere.....i think u can check a grounding problem by hooking a vohm from the positive terminal to the negative cable that is disconnected....i could be way off base on this whole post, electrical problems can be easily fixed or a pain in the azz....

he said he checked the wires on the trunk hinge....besides i dont think that would cause the negative cable to get hot...i really think its the starter,but it could be a number of things

Update:
I took the altenator off and had Autozone check it and all it says is it passed. There is no voltage reading or such with the new machine.

I then took it to Advance Auto and when they checked it the guy told me that the voltage was on the high side; 16+ volts.

Now could that make some of the problems I described earlier in this post happen?

out put should be somewhere in the 13.5-14.5 range, 16 volts will ovecharge or cook the battery but wong melt the cable insulation, did he checks the amps from the alternator?

Python I changed out altenators with a used good one.
But when I turn the key to start it, the car dash lights and everything goes off for about 10 sec. then I her a click right where the starter is. Then I can try and start it again and the samething happens.

i would have it tested first, see what the amp draw is and see if it is creating a direct grounding problem...i would hate to see u change this out only to find it isnt ur problem..although signs point to it, its not a simple job
