when A/C is on, idle is very steady and smooth (650-700 rpm) but when A/C goes off, idle is too low (450-500 rpm or even less)

how to fix?

....that's normal for the RPMs to be higher at low/no speeds with the A/C on. It's why they say "using the A/C wastes gas." It only wastes gas if you're sitting in traffic. If you're in 2nd gear + it won't make a difference.

...then again, we've all got V8s... who cares about gas.
