1994 Radio question
I have a 94' ls400. The radio does not work. It turns on and everything but there is no sound coming out of the speakers.
I checked the fuse under the hood and i couldn't locate the fuse box that is mentioned in the manual that states its in the driver's kicker panel. The fuse under the hood is fine. The cd changer is missing completely as in the housing, not just the cartridge. Does anyone think that with the cd changer is missing the audio is not working completely? I figured that even if the changer is missing, at least fm/am would work or the cassette player would work. Or do you think the amp is messed up also? How can i check? |
The interior fuse box is in the driver's side footwell area. Just lookup to the left of the brake pedal. However, you said it turns on so it doesn't sound like a fuse issue to me. It kind of sounds like your radio has died...
|
so you don't think it has anything to do with the cd changer being missing?
If the case that the radio has died, i think it would be more practical for me to buy an aftermarket cd player but i would like to troubleshoot the problem before spending $300 on an aftermarket cd player. Any idea on how i can troubleshoot this problem w/o buying a cd changer? |
I don't think the cd changer has anything to do with it, that just plugs in as a accessory in the back. It's like the antenna for the radio, if it's not plugged in you just don't get reception.
You said it turns on, what shows up on the display after you turn the car on? I'm thinking maybe the anti-theft system locked the radio up. If that's the case you need to reset or enter the code. Your owners manual may have a procedure for that. |
Mine did this as well and it ended up being the fuse in the motor bay.
Check it out and stop worrying...that's most likely it. |
I checked the fuse under the hood already and its good. I even replaced it to be sure but it doesn't help. How do i know if its in anti-theif mode?
When i turn on the radio it turns on just like a normal radio would without sound. Which is why i'm also thinking that it might be an amp problem. |
It's not locked if you can see radio stations.
You can pull the unit out and test it but I would just replace it at this point. Not a whole lot more you can do. |
I have a factory headunit I can sell you for cheap if you're in need of one.
It's a Nakamichi. |
RandomHero, where are you located in georgia?
Can you assure me that the unit is still in working condition and at what price. You can pm me the price if you don't want to make it public. Also, would you happen to have the cd changer also? yea i have the Nakamichi headunit. LMK |

Um with the anti-thief protection, does come on all ls400 models or does it only come with a certain package that you have. I have the Nak. headunit with the cd changer (missing of course). |
