Default buy a 93-94 or pony up for a 95-97???

Ok I have always wanted a LS400 now they are quite afforadable. I was looking at a few
1. 1994 LS black/tan 158k new t-belt, tune up, tires with reciepts for $4600 firm
2. 1996 LS grey/grey 220k 2nd owner all service up to to date $3200 firm
3. 1993 LS grey/grey 180k city car not so up to date $2600

I want to stay under 5k, all 3 cars look clean in pics no dents, rust etc...
is there a big difference in the way a 93-94 drives compared to a 95-97?? handling, comfort etc..

Now I would love a 98+ however they are 9k+

what do you guys say?

+1 Pony Up for at least a 95 and up.

They did a bunch of stuff for 95

http://www.lexls.com/info/lsgenerations.html

That will show you year by year what was added to the options and standard features etc.

I never bought a car with more than 130k so the 220k miles kinda scares me. I mean $3200 will get you a way lower milage car although it might not be a Lexus LS. How bad are these cars in snow etc... will a set of snow tires make them driveable? and anyone can give any input on 1998+ Q45s? there is one close by for 4k with only 100k on it... the q's seemed to have faded into oblivion

I just stepped up to a 99 LS after having a 91 for about two months. There is a big difference in the way the gen2 rides vs the gen1. A two inch longer wheelbase for more comfort in the rear for passengers. A slightly nicer interior but very similar to the first gen. I also notice the gen2 is a little quieter too. Take your time and shop around before you drop the hammer and buy. Happy shopping!

Keep looking for a 2'nd generation.

I wouldn't mind a Q45...it's roomy and there aren't lots of them on the roads. They look pretty sick dropped with some nice wheels. I dunno how they are mechanically.

The 96' seems like a good price, even considering the mileage.

I heard that a lot of the earlier Q45 models had electrical/wiring problems.

Bummer. No wonder there aren't that many on the roads then. The Q was a favorite of mine. For kicks last year, I went looking for a 2002-'04 since they were selling around ~$17-20K in low miles good shape. None of the dealers had any pre-owned and they kept pushing me for a new M series.

The one Q we did come across, the Mrs. preferred our aging LS over it.
