torque converter

has anyone had to replace the torque converter in there car at all? my car started leaking transmission fluid and i let it go for about a week and it continued to do it, so i looked underneath the car and i could see the fluid leaking out of the inspection plate, i took the car to a guy of mine and he told me that i needed a new torque converter for my car, my car is a 1994 fully loaded ls with only 92k on it( i thought these transmissions were suppose to be perfect) he also said someone had spilled soda in the car and it was all over the electronics in the transmission, anyways he replaced all the seals/gaskets cleaned everything up and did the torque converter. All together everything was $800 it was originally $894

I dunno about Lexus cars, but most auto transmissions have a front seal that the snout of the torque converter slides in to. Unless the converter itself sprung a leak, I would think that seal is all that would need to be replaced assuming the snout on the converter wasn't deeply grooved.
