Default 1990 ls400 high idle w/ MAF, low idle but no go without MAF...

Ok, new to the LS400, and have searched the forums... finding nothing that fits my problem. With everything connected teh car idles at 2k and rpms rise up when opening throttle under TRAC cover normally, disconnect the MAF (CEL codes 21 and 31) and it idles at 1k but RPMs between 1.2K and 1.5K cause it to act like the govoner kicks in... have messed with the two Throttle Position sensors and even cleaned the butterflies in the TB... if i adjust the first TPS by the manifold, it goes as low as 2k and then acts like the govoner is kicking in. I've messed with both but doesn't help... disconnecting the MAF and it idles lower but runs at low low RPMs... It is throwing a code for the MAF but is there a way around this as i do not have $300+ to replace it... I thought disconnecting it would just result in it running rich, not killing it above 1.2K RMP

Help!

- Chris

Well I pulled the IACV off the front of the motor above the water neck and cleaned it. Turns out it was stuck and would not go in or out so tore the whole thing apart and fixed it. Now just need new MAF and O2 sensors.

Any difference to the idle after cleaning the IACV? I have the opposite problem, a very very low idle, that I suspect is a failing or clogged IACV. So far the car drives fine but on one ocassion it stalled and a couple of times the revs have raced which is disconcerting. It is an expensive part, ~$4-$600. Used ones pop up on ebay for $50-$150.

Thanks,

glenmore

Idle lowered. I haven't driven it much as it has a trans fluid leak that hits the exhaust and starts to smoke and stink. Still need to work on adjusting the two TPS's on the throttle body. THe tutorial only covers having one TPS.

I would recomend pulling it and cleaning it. Was pretty easy to do. It might be stuck like mine was.

The issue now is mostly the trans fluid leaking above where the trans lines go into it. will goto the garage for that one.
