Talking Great Info On Wet Trunks

My amplifier shorted out. All the big dealers were asking about 850 dollars to replace it etc. My 96 LS400 has a phone module in the trunk with at least 5 wiring bundles. While looking for the amplifier (with is under the front passenger seat) I noticed the mats in the trunk were wet. I pulled them back and in each forward, lowest corner of the trunk there was about 3 inches of water. The plastic drain tubes at these points had come out of their holes and while driving in rain etc.. the tires forced water up into the holes and into the trunk.
This in turn shorted out the wiring bundles. I removed the water, fan dried the trunk for about 12 hours, reinstalled the drain tubes and put calking around the holes. I then put silicon caulk around all the bundle wires.
I will check the drain tubes peridoically.
There was no reason for them to have come out of their holes.
Meanwhile my radio/stereo system now works fine and I saved at least 850 scoots.

Hey I've actually noticed a little water in my spare tire area as well in my 97.

Is it possible for you to take a photo of the areas to caulk around? I'm tired of busting out the shop-vac every few weeks!!!! Thankfully it's summer and hasn't been as rainy, but within a month or two up here in the Pacific North West I will have to be drying it out once every couple weeks! I also haven't noticed any loose tubes or anything... but then again I don't really know what I am looking for down there..

So glad someone might have a solution to this prob!!

So if you can get a pic or something it would be GREATLY appreciated! I'm glad I'm not alone!!!

I also still get water in my trunk, it seems to come from the seal around the trunk not being as tight as possible.

That's where mine leaks from, I just haven't got around to replacing it yet.

So I'm assuming that the fix for this problem would be to just order another seal from Lexus?

Anyone have an alternate fix that won't have the Lexus pricetag associated with it?

I pulled the old one up and reglued it, but it had holes in it and still leaks. A new one isn't that expensive if you order it online. Somewhere around $150 IIRC.

$150 for a little seal? Are you talking about the rubber plugs under the spare tire???

I'd much rather not spend $150 on a plug...

Mine only fills up in the bottom where the spare tire is. Nothing is wet up top where you store things. It's all coming from somewhere down low.

dang bro serious whats with u and pictures/videos? lol

i used to have a leak in my trunk but not anymore. dunno what happened but now my trunk is lined with fatmat so if i was to have a leak somewhere, that puddle is gonna stay there until i find it since i covered up every single hole around the spare well.

No, I'm talking about the trunk gasket. The one that seals the trunk lid to the body. It's big.

I had the same problem. Just remove the trunk gasket, clean the gasket and the edge around the trunk, apply silicone-base glue (get an expensive one from Lowes or Home Depot) around the edge of trunk, let it dry for about 1/2 - 1 hr, put the gasket back in, tightly secure it, keep the trunk open overnight to allow add'l drying time.
