Default OK.. another fuel thread... maybe its different though? / I am finally back!!

OK.... this is right out of my Owners Manual for my 1992 LS.

In short, if you want to use 87 octane, find a gas station with "up to 10% ethanol.

From Owners Manual, word for word.

"Gasohol is a mixture of gasoline and ethanol. If you use gasohol in your Lexus, be sure that it is unleaded, and has an octane level no lower than 87 and does not contain MORE than 10% of ethanol. Lexus does not recommend the use of gasolines containing METHANOL.".

So I guess we CAN use 87 octane, right?

On a side note, Lexus DOES recommend the use of gasolines that contain detergent additives to avoid build-up of engine deposits. So if you use gas without additives, Lexus recommends using them.

Also... according to the Manual...Lexus says we need unleaded gas with a RON (Research Octane Number) of 96 which equals Octane Rating 91, or higher. But gas with an RON as low as 91 may be used, if premium fuel can not be obtained. 87 Octane is equal to RON 91, correct?

So aren't we able to run 87 octane, all the time, if need be? ESPECIALLY if it contains ethanol? With a 22.5 gal tank, this would save quite a big of money over a long period of time.
----------------------
On a TOTALLY seperate note, I finally had the chance to replace my t-belt, water pump, distributors, drive belts, as well as many other components after it broke about 3 months ago. I havent had the chance to get to it since then until recently. It didnt take me too long either, and I am totally not a DIY yourselfer kinda guy, trust me. It feels good to be driving it again. I have been driving my 2007 Silverado 2500 6.0" with 38" tires and 22" rims gettin' about 6-7 mpg if Im lucky . My girlfriend drives my 04 Mercdes SL500 and she only gets about 15mpg. Feels good to be up at 17mpg again in my LS, and yes, on 87 octane. No knocking or pinging, but I also drive it real easy. I am planning on selling both the truck and Benz.. so if anyone is interested, let me know! The Chrysler 300 limo is for sale as well

nice truck! you should hav gotten a dmax though. much better fuel economy and power to spin those tires!

but anyway, yes you can use 87, especially if you just cruise around in it. if you want full performance, use the 93.
