Default 1UZ-FE driveablity issues.

It was another 90+ degree day in NorCal today and as I was driving back home from errands, I noticed my car was acting sluggish but I was 5 minutes from home so I took it easy. I thought it could be a tranny issue so when I pulled into the garage, I checked the ATF - bright red, clean and sweet smelling. But as the engine idled, I noticed it was about to die and then the RPMs raised up so much, I shut off the motor before it could bounce off the rev limiter. My thoughts is that it could be a fuel issue, a vacuum leak or a ignition issue. The CEL is not on, but I'll start the car tonight when it gets cooler. I'm stumped to what else could go wrong.
