I picked up my first lexus two years ago after beeing a honda head prior. I still kept a honda around since I didn't know how I would take to the change and my boosted sc300 won me over as did the comfort of the car. I am now parting with my Integra and looking at a 93' LS400 BLK/BLK for 3k.

I have only seen pictures of the car on craigslist so I know nothing of how it drives or performs mechanically but the price seems really good. Here is a little info.

93' LS400
202k miles
black on black
Nakamichi stereo
heated seats
auto steering wheel
security system
CD changer

Let me know if you find this to be too good to be true and other things I should look for other than the p/s and gauge cluster. I have good knowlege when it comes under the hood, but some things tend to be easily over looked.

It seems to be to pricey to me. I look on craigslist, and the average price for a 1st gen lexus is $2000-$2500. These are around 150k-200k miles. I've seen one for 3200 and another for 3400, but they had about 125k miles. Things you should definitely check is the power steering pump. If it is has not be replaced or rebuilt, it will leak soon. Also check for the brakes because they vibrate. Look for the LCD climate control to see if it's blacked out. Also the power antenna because it might not go up and down when it is supposed to. Those are common problems with high mileage 1st gen lexus. I would try to offer the person for a lower price like say 2k-2.5k

I didn't purchase the car. The p/s pump was leaking and killed the alternator, they didn't even get it to start.

Whatever you end up doing, just try to get it as inexpensive as possible. Since these cars are so old you will most likely have to slap down a little cash to get maintenance up to par. The money you save on the purchace will be put to good use here. Also the good thing is, it's a pretty good buyers market. With the gas prices the way they are dealers and people looking for more frugal cars are trying to move what their sitting on. Tell them what you are willing to pay and if they don't agree, move on. There are a lot of deals out there, just take your time and see which one works out for you.
