how much fluid is required for LS400 2000 model' s transmission.

2.5 quarts for a simple drain and fill.
Make sure you buy Type IV tranny fluid. You can buy it at the Toyota dealer.

the total transmission fluid is 8.9 quarts. So if you want to have total fluid change that is the total quarts needed only use TlV toyota fluid only.

My neighbor is a mechanic at a nissan/ford dealer. He took my lexus to work for an oil change and i asked that he do a tranny drain/refilll...not flush. the rcpt shows he used 5 quarts of mercon V ATF ???

I know the lexus calls for Toyota type IV. What should i do? Drain/refill a few times with the right stuff? Or add a friction modifier like lubguard?

You can't just drain and refill, that only drains like 1/4 of the total fluid. Your best bet is to do a full flush. Theres a tutorial at lexls.com

you'll need a full flush with ~10-12qts of Toyota T-IV now. mercon and dexron spec. fluid will burn the tranny up.

You can use Castrol Import multi vehicle also, it's spec'd to T-IV also and it's at Autozone.

u can also use valvoline max life, u can also put in lube gard friction modifier without flushing,just put it in right now...

+1, what kind of mechanic thinks that all trans fluids are the same, does he also have the same reasoning with oil ?? Hope he never works at a Lexus dealership.

Most mechanics are like this, this is why you need to do your research first, and bring your own parts/fluids to the repair shops.

If you want your car repaired properly, but don't have the means to repair it yourself, you need to at least identify the problem and learn how to repair it, and then bring it to a repair shop, and watch them work to make sure they do it properly. And like I mentioned before, always bring your own parts and fluids.

Dude why you give him your LS in the first place if he works @ a Nissan/Ford dealership? Drain that crap out, you may have to do another flush, but not really recommended. Take to a certified Lexus mechanic or stealership.
