Default Mystery Brake/Turn signal issue

97 ls400....When I hit the brakes, the pass side turn signal lights also light up. I can hear a relay clicking by the gear shift when braking, I did not hear it before issue. Any ideas?

Hrmm.. weird. The wires to both of these are in the same pairing, so they could be crossed.. but who knows. It is definitely an electrical problem of some sort.

I would be jiggling tracing wires all over the car, trying to find the source of the turn/brake and so on. Tracing from fuse boxes.

I'd even remove the fuse(s).. undo negative battery term. cable to reset computer, and anything I could think of to try to rememdy and situation like this.

I'd go so far as to check the bulbs,.. even though that shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Maybe someone has heard of this before and can let you know the special little trick. Maybe check under the dash to make sure the brake pedal isn't cutting into any wires, or creating a relay/circuit for the blinker.

Worst case you take it to a general mechanic and let them diagnose it.. -- Lexus will charge you a fortune even if its an easy fix, because they will probably have to trace alot down to get to it. (Or charge you a base fee).

I bet that is annoying !

first thing to check on any sort of stop/turn signal craziness is the trunk hinge harness.

Hit the brake and the noise is the parking brake release.
Have someone check the lights out back and look for changes.
I am going to guess the wires behind the taillight are damaged and the turn signal is getting activated with the brakes. The trunk hinge has no turn signal wires to be activated. Only parking ,reverse and license plate.
Or the wiring from that tailight is damaged in the trunk area.

yea but messed up trunk hinge wirign has been known to mess up the whole body electrical system, raning from turn signal/brake light issues up to random dash flickering.
