I am having a seatbelt issue with my front seatbelts. i have seen a couple of posts about this however i think i have a bit different situation. My seatbelts will retract as soon as your turn the car off and take out the key or when you unbuckle them. i am thinking it may be a ground issue. i am wondering if running a ground to the seatbelt would fix this issue. anyone having a similar problem? on the other threads everyone is saying replace the seatbelt but im not sure if that is necessary.

what car is this for? what year? not aware that LS400s have active seat restraints.

my 95 feels as if it tugs on the belts a little bit when you shut the car off, and i know the brochures advertised seatbelt pretensioners in 95.

However, i am having difficulty understanding what your issue is, so the seatbelt retracts when you unbuckle it? Whats wrong with that? on mine i usually have to manually feed the belt back in so it's not all loose and hanging over the seat or in the door jamb!

uhh, seatbelts are supposed to retract when you unbuckle them....

there's no electrical motors involved, it's a simple wound spring. the pretensioners are completely separate.

My driver seatbelt doesn't retract at all. What could that be?

my seatbelt is loose until you take the key out or unbuckle in. i have tried hand feeding it back in myself but i have found to take the slack out just unbuckle it and rebuckle it. but there has to be a reason why its not retracting properly during normal wearing of it

there is actually a wire hooked up to the seat belt latch that works with the belt mechanism. I dont know exactly how to explain it with out pictures. When you unbuckle it releases the tiny lever that stops a gear and the belt will wind up with aide from the spring on that gear. It works in conjunction with the pretensioner in an event of an accident. It locks the gear in place. The pre tensioner pulls slack in.
The gear is supposed to allow slack and tension for normal wear. If its just providing too much slack and not winding back in for normal tension unbuckle and it will go in. If it doesnt do nothing and just hangs out all day possibly that spring that works with that gear broke.

My seat belts do not use the lever with small spring and gear that works with the latch (the wire for that small lever is unplugged, srs is forces the belt to stay locked). I removed my pretensioner after they fired. The small spring on gear only winds my belts in O so much. all the way on a warm day. colder days i need to give it few tugs and help it in if the mechanical lock gear stops it from going in all the way.

I suggest not messing with your seatbelts if you do not know how to work with the pre tensioners. If you some how set them off, you probably will loose a finger.

I would suggest replacing the seatbelts.
