Seafoam DIY!!
 

Ok first things first big thanks to nc211 for giving me the info (and courage :blushing: ) to do this! hahah
You WILL need a buddy to help you for this one.
Make sure your car is at warm operating temperature. (for last step :))

1. Measure yourself out about 5.5 ounces of Seafoam. (about 1/3 of the can. I used the last of my Seafoam on my car so I used water for the pictures)

2. Find the brake booster.

3. Disconnect it. There will be a release of pressure, as it is a vacuum line. Don't worry about it, it's normal.

4. Hold the hose ON THE SURFACE of the Seafoam. DO NOT fully submerge it.
Have a buddy start the car and hold the RPM's at about 2-2.5k RPMs, so it won't die.
Remember to let the hose "slurp" the Seafoam into it.
When the Seafoam is gone IMMEDIATELY turn the car OFF

5. Reconnect the brake booster hose, and let the car sit for about 15 minutes.
Now would be a good time to wash your car...

or just sit back and admire it to kill some time.

6. Start the car back up! It may sputter and choke, but it will start. Give it some gas as you're cranking it, when it fires up, REV IT UP!!

7. Once the smoke has almost completely dissapated take it for a spin. Don't be afraid to boost it a little to get the last bit out of it's system.
Some will smoke more than others depending on how dirty they are.


Enjoy the new-found smoothness and much smoother idle! This would be a good time to also clean the throttle body, and replace the sparkplugs :D

So you didnt put it in the crankcase and gas tank?

Yeah I've seen that write up, I just want one with pictures cause I'm more of a visual person. Do you know which wire goes where on the relay?? are they labeled on the relay? (the +/- trigger and output and source) that part was a little confusing to me.

And no, I've only got about 1000 miles on this oil change so I wanted to get some more out of it. I'm going to Seafoam again when it's time to change my oil.

omg get out smitt, u dont see us in the ES forum....maybe sometimes. did the seafoam thing in my car and omg the amount of smoke that came out was unbelievable..

I just watched the YouTube video and it did look like a ton of smoke. :sad: But alot of people say it works great so its worth a shot. How long did ur car smoke BTW?

o jeez it smoked for at least 3 minutes..of reving too. then probably another 2-3 minutes driving to/on the highway. first start up smoked it up so much i couldnt see the house across the street from me and the wind blew it to my front door and blocked that out too...finally blew to my neighbors house who were cutting trees down (they started at 8am in the morning, TAKE THAT!).

This smoke is fun and all, but I highly doubt if seafoam is actually effective. This smoke is probably the Seafoam itself burning off. I doubt it does anything for carbon build up. When I remove my throttle body, no amount of carb cleaner sprayed directly on the build up could clean it off, I had to scrub it with a screw driver.

this isnt as much for the throttle as it is for the intake manifold and the actual combustion chamber.

I'd be interested to remove the intake manifold after a seafoam treatment and see if it actually did anything. If the carbon build up is as stubborn as it is on the throttle body, I doubt that Seafoam would do anything to remove it. I don't think anything short of scrubbing could do anything.
