Question Dealer vs nondealer costs for repairs

I am interested in comparing dealer vs nondealer costs for parts and labor to replace brake pads and lower ball joints for 1992 LS 400

at the dealer, it's A LOT of money..
at a non dealer, it's A LOT less than the dealer....

you should really be thinking
Dealer vs non dealer vs my weekend time for repair costs

i always advocate for you to try it yourself before goign dealer route
90% of car maintenance anyone in their backyard can do with a jack, some jackstands, and a crafstman Mechanics tool set
for stuf fyou cant do, (IE pressing in Ball joints) take the LCA off, take it to them. It makes it that much cheaper
and you learn some stuff on teh way

The guy I go to... only works on Toyotas and Lexus'... tells me to call Lexus and see what they charge, then charges me 1/2 of that.

And Larry... those jobs are pretty easy to do yourself, even if you arent much of a DIY'er. If you would just rather someone else do then, I wouldnt think you would get charged much if based on an hourly rate.
