Well,

I don't have it anymore but my 90 LS was the tightest squeak-free car I've ever had. The only rattle it had was the blown rear center factory sub. I had that repaired (reconed) for $50 or so.

Now drive a Mercedes of the same vintage and you wanna talk rattles!!

I can't see why anyone would have problems with rattles in a Lex unless the car had been gutted or something due to a previous theft or an crappy stereo installation.

Not only is my 90 LS400 100% squeak and rattle free, but my recently sold 1993 Toyota Camry LE V6 was also 100% squeak and rattle free and it had 212K. These cars are extremely well built.

CHAS: What year and model of Mercedes do you have? I test drove a 1984 Mercedes 300SD with 340,000 miles and it was still 100% squeak and rattle free as well. Perhaps the interior build quality has went down on the 1990s Mercedes as opposed to the 1980s Mercedes.

95 LS400, 85,000 miles, rattle free except for sunroof wind deflector like Jbrady said. However, I found the the two tiny little rubber seats where the deflector sits on when closed had worn out, or simply compressed down too far. It's an easy fix! Just get some rubber stumps from any office max and put them on top of the two little ones, and it's done. Perfect fit, perfectly silent. No rattles, no nothing. I could hear a fly fart at 90mph in that thing.

I have a 94 LS 400 and an 01 LS430 and the wind noise is almost equivalent. My 94 has about 93K miles on it. My 01 has about 70K They both perform terrific. Miles don't matter. Whether you love your car or not does. If you maintain the car, it can last forever

I currently have an 89 420SEL. They seem to all squeak and rub at the doorsills and at just about every other joint in the interior. Don't get me wrong, it is a beautiful car that in my opinion has loads of character when compared to an LS, just the Germans seemed to have trouble designing proper fasteners to hold all the interior pieces together. The visors are currently falling apart on me, new ones are like $400 a piece!!

BTW, I can't imagine a 300SD with 340K being as quiet as you say it is.

Question: How loud is your LS when it starts up in the morning? I know they need to warm up, and I'm used to a V6 Maxima, just curious how loud everyone's is when you first start it up? Mine sounds like a jet engine starting up. Also, mine is new to me, I'm curious how it sounds in the winter months. How's the ride? How's the leather? A typical leather interior with normal leather "chatter"?

I have a 1991 LS400 w/208K and its still 100% rattle and squeak free. Very solid car. No creaks or "ticks" either. Pretty impressive for a nearly 17 year old car with over 200K.

My old 1990 LS400 had 220K when I bought it. It was originally squeak and rattle free. However, I had put Lexol leather conditioner on the dash panel upon someones recommendation. BIG no-no, because for some reason, it hardened my padding on my dash, as well as my door panels. Shortly after that, I had very annoying "ticking" and cracking noises from my dash and door panels. Its like it damaged the vinyl or something... ?? I will NEVER do that again.

I have a friend with a 93' LS and its quiet too, but over rough railroad tracks, it will have some "ticking" noises from the interior when going over the tracks... I guess thats probably pretty normal for such an old car though. Over the years I am sure the sun really takes a toll on the interiors... shrinking and hardening the vinyl/plastics.

Not on my current 91', but on my 90', I used to get an occasional noise I think near the "B" pillar, but if my memory serves me right, it turned out to be the window on the front passenger door... it would rattle if the window was not all the way up into the channel.

LOL.. I know it. I was actually the one that started this thread... I used to be "shaffer" on here when I had my 1990 LS400. When I bought my 91' LS400 and came back, I had completely forgot my old username and my email address had changed and I could not remember anything (so I could not get my old password to update my account), so I had to get a new name under my new email. Now that I think of it, I probably could have emailed mod and got that info, but maybe not since there was no way to verify anything.

I was just going to make a new thread about it, but then I ran across this one. Hopefully we have a lot of new members since this was started that will chime in.
