Default Fluid Drip To Driver Side Exhaust

Hey Guys,
I notice after every trip, I opened the hood and I can smell and see some fumes coming up from the driver side exhaust thru the engine compartment, and I see the transmission tube going down to the pan is kind of oily; Is there a leak somewhere with the tranmission tube ? I remember I read about it somewhere about an O ring thing. Thank you.

idk about your scenario but i had a similar issue on my old '95 LS400 where the High Pressure Steering hose from teh PS pump to the rack was leaking BADLY and spraying the cat with PS fluid, causing it to smoke madly every time it got hot.

Thanks for your quick reply. really appreciated.
My LS has a brand new remanufactured rack so I don't think that is the cause. I notice there is a drip of fluid hanging by the turn of the transmission dipstick going into the pan. I think the fluid is either tranmission fluid or engine oil. I don't notice any leak on ground in my garage; so I think it drips only when engine is running.

i didnt say anything about the rack now did i.

the POWER STEERING HOSE (high pressure line) commonly starts leaking and it is NOT included in either the pump or the rack when those are replaced.

mine didnt leak until it got to operating temp since the fluid used (dexron III/mercon atf) is pretty thick cold and i had a pinhole leak.

yes, you never refer to the rack. You were talking about the PS hose.
I have been monitoring the power steering fluid level and the level has not drop so far. I'll wait few more weeks to see how it goes. And I will take a look at the PS hoses today. thank you.

best bet is to check near the hose ends, i noticed mine was leaking close to the connection to the rack.

i wouldnt rule out the trans leaking but you need to pinpoint exactly what is being burned and more importantly, where.
