Default Trunk Lift Struts

Both trunk lift struts are shot on my LS 400. Dealer wants $207.00 each. Does anyone know where I could get a pair that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Seems the ends of the struts do not have the ball and cup, mine looks to be some sort of clip on.

You might be suprised, but check with McMaster-Carr. They're a general industrial supply firm and have TON'S of things like gas struts.

ebay has them a seller that can get them cheap (cant remember name atm) and lexls.com has a tut on adapting autozone struts for the hoods that may work if u can get the load rating and stroke right.

the trunk ones are exclusive from everything i have seen , even contacted a guy who only sells lift struts and he said it was a dealer only part. I need new ones for my trunk also.

Do you know they're bad if the trunk just closes or are they supposed to push the trunk up when you click the button to open it?

It's not like the Benzies...when you release the trunk, it just sits in the near closed position waiting for you to open it fully. Any position short of full up, it will close on its own.

You probably could get them cheap from a junkyard...paying slightly over $400 for that seems bonkers to me...

Angry

I have tried 5 local junk yards and none have them, even called one in Virginia. Maybe I will give it another shot and check a few more yards before I give up. Just wondering how long a pair from a yard would last, a week, month, and then I will be right back where I am now. Not sure where the cut off yerar for my installation type is, hopefully they didn't go to the ball and cup style until 00 or 01 and I can get a few years out of them.

No luck at TAP, thanks anyhow. Anyone know of another yard that has a few LS400's laying around?

Imagine the SC300/400 ones fit for a straight swap. Oh well you can always dream since they are on ebay.
I am sure if someone could get a set out to compare their must be somethign in the same length ,pressures and ends.
