Default Ticking noise on acceleration 91 LS

I have a 91LS400 and I hear a ticking noise when I take off. Its not loud but I was wondering if anyone hear the same?

Is it the valves? How hard are they to adjust? Anyone done this?

Could possibly be the infamous valve shims. Usually you can hear it at idle, but it seems to disappear at higher RPMs. Is that what you're referring to? Are you able to use a mechanic's stethoscope to pinpoint the location of the sound?

Would regualar stethescopes work? lol I have those.

I just read on the last page of this forum someone mentioned
EGR pipe
what is that exactly?

The EGR pipe transports exhaust gasses from one of the exhaust manifolds (the pass. side one I believe) to the rear of the intake manifold. It's part of your EGR system, which also includes the EGR valve and modulator, either electrically or vacuum modulated. If the EGR pipe is broken, it can result in a ticking noise, similar to that of when your shims are out of adjustment.
