Default Problem (slow acceleration)

I got a question, i just bought a 93 ls400, with 180,000 miles, its a great car, but it seems its lacking power for sure, the car has tons of pwer when going at 40 mph and hitting the gas pedal, but at the launch off from zero it seems is lacking lots of pwer as it goes very slow, and seems t start to get its power again once it hits 40, so i was wondering if this alright for its miles, or do you guys think something is wrong, i checked the plugs today and they do seem in pretty bad shape but do you guys think that might be the proble, if anyone has any opinions please let me know.

welcome to Clublexus foremost, and about your car; you should definitely change spark plugs (NGK Iridiums are pretty good), spark plug wires (OEM preferred), distributer caps and rotors and probably a air filter, you might also want to clean your throttle body too. refer to www.lexls.com for all the DIY tutorials.

ps. great first post too, included year and miles.

welcome to CL, the 1LS is naturally slow off the line because of little low-end tq, and high gearing.

Take a video of your acceleration and post it so we can determine if it's abnormally slow.

mine had the same problem as well. once i got it, changed the oil & filter, air filter, tranny fluid, and plugs. I also cleaned out the throttle body and added fuel injector cleaner every other tank of gas.

the car's acceleration has improved alot, but its still not that fast off the line. mine was built in nov of 1992 so its a 15 year old car. i think it performs well for a car of that age. btw mine is a 93 with 163K miles.

It's not the 1UZ-FE; it's the gearing. The torque curve for the 1UZ-FE is excellent- almost flat and with loads of torque right off the bat.

No, it's part of the transmission.

The Gentelman Above Was Correct About The Throttle Body It Get Full Of Carbon I Recently Had My Valve Ajusted Due To 3 Being Loud And When The Tech Had The Throttle Body Off He Found A Ton Of Carbon He Said The Intake Hole Was Small Due To The Carbon The Car Had 188,000 Miles. I Also Found A New Product For The Air Mass Flow Meter Just Behind The Air Filter Going Into The Engine It's A Can Of AIR MASS FLOW CLEANER I Tried It And It Worked Just Great You Just Spray The Metal Sensor About 5 Inches Behind The Wire Cage Where The Air Filter Sits It Protects Any Parper Or Other Debris From Getting Into The Engine.
