Replacement K&N air filter.

Is it worth the $55 for it? I know that they last alot longer than a standard paper filter, but do any of you that have it feel any gains in hp or torque?

There are inconclusive reports that using a K&N can increase silica levels in your oil. It is my personal belief that a brand new K&N or an improperly oiled K&N, moreso the latter than the former, will let in more contaminants than a quality cellulose air filter. Oiled filters tend to filter better when slightly dirty, and may even filter as well as paper in certain circumstances, but conflicting reports as to their filtration effectiveness have lead me to steer clear away from any and all oiled cotton gauze filters.

I have been running the K&N air filters in my 1991 ls400 and found they seem to help a little bit. One thing I have noticed it is a little bit noiser on the air when I hit the gas. When I clean the K&N filters I put luke water in my kitchen sink with lots of Dawn dish cleaner the first and let the filter soak for about 20 minutes then I slosh it around the second time less dawn the third time even less but still a good amount. then I fill the sink again and make sure the all the soap is out then I let the filter sit for 24 hours to thourghly dry then I add a thin coat of oil on it. I own two filters so I can rotate them while one dries. Since I have used the K&N air filters I have gained somewhere around 1-3 miles a gallon. I also use mobil one synthetic oil which I started using around 60,000 miles and change at 10,000 miles the engine now has 190,000 and runs perfect. I also use Lucas fluel injection cleaner every other tank full and this will keep the injector clean Lucas is far the best.
